Luk khrueng literally translates to half-child in Thai.

Hi there, I’m Sophie.

I’m a British-born, half Thai half Danish writer based in Amsterdam. I’m a “luk khrueng,” which literally translates to “half-child” in Thai. It’s a word commonly used to describe a person who has one Thai parent and one foreign parent (in my case, a Thai mother and a Danish father).

I decided to start The Half-Child to share stories of more people like me. Growing up with two different nationalities, ethnicities, and ultimately, identities, can be confusing, awkward, and frustrating – but it’s also magical.

We’re a growing breed and I can’t wait for you to meet more of us.
